How to Calculate pitch when tornado milling pockets with mazatrol

Hello,
I’m new to mazak and don’t have any real experience. So any constructive criticism is appreciated.

I’m using a mazak pallet tech system with a nexus controller.

The idea is to spiral cut an internal pocket.

I need to calculate the pitch. It’s explained to me as the corkscrew action of the mill as it spirals down cutting the round pocket or socket.

How do I get numbers that make sense?

I didn’t add material or sizes because I’m trying to find out how to calculate the number.

Thanks

The pitch is the distance traveled in Z in one complete rotation. That value is whatever will give you the desired result.

Using a downward path of 5 degrees would be figured by:
P=0.137*(D-d) where D is the diameter of the hole and d is the diameter of the end mill. If this is too aggressive then use a smaller constant. A few trials with a scrap piece of material should yield a constant that works for your situation.
