Mazak certainly goes overboard with their machine nomenclatures — marketing BS at its finest.
“Nexus” was just marketing mumbo-jumbo, started when Mazak began using Windows and hard drives on their controls (in the background) in the early 2000’s. Millions of dollars have been made over the years replacing $1200+ hard drives, and re-installing the operating software for shops, to bring their software-dead machine back to life. (Insert eye roll here...)
The “-II” in their machines signifies a more-modern revision of a previous machine.
Toolcat, what about all the different controls? SmoothG, SmoothC, Flunky-Tunk (), etc............??
More of the same mumbo-jumbo?
Definitely different, the smooth controls are nice if you like touchscreen. Had never touched a mazak machine, then got sent to work with an Integrex.
After somewhat learning that control, going to a QTNY(?) with the older 'push button' controls, it was awkward for sure. They had the same basic functions, just different menus and soft keys to learn. One thing gotta say about Haas, might not be the best machine, but I love that their controls have been basically the same (at least layout wise) for 20 years.
