Glad you're safe, but that is really sad about the shop. I hope you have insurance and understanding customers. I can only imagine the ordeal of dealing with insurance adjusters, on top of losing your livelihood. Scary...

I lived in the woods when I was in CA. The entire time I lived there, they always reminded people to make sure there was 30ft of clearance around your house, for fire protection. Problem is, 30ft wasn't attainable because hardly anyone had a lot big enough to have 30ft around their house. On top of that, when you live right up against forest land that's on fire, 30ft ain't gonna do it, maybe for a grass fire. I think they upped the recommendation to 75 feet at one point.

The closest I came to fire was a couple times the western slope of the coastal range, on Lockheed's property, caught fire.

I move up here and the grass field across the street catches fire 2 years in a row (same guy), but I've got a decent fire break (the road). I've also got 50-70ft between structures and the fence line.

Sadly, looking at photos of Paradise, it reminds me of Lake Tahoe, but looks nearly indefensible from fire.

I'm glad to hear you got out (Jess), sorry to hear about your shop.

I saw a pic of Gerard Butler's burned down house, he had a steel framed garage and the heat from the fire gave those beams the old spaghetti treatment.

I hope the fire wasn't hot enough to ruin all your tooling/broaches.

Yes Perry I have been trying to decide where to publish but I think it will be in the General forum. This is not really the place for us to have this conversation. This thread is really for Jess to use for sharing photos of his shop. There is nothing wrong with what has been posted but this isnt the place for this. Keep checking the General section, I will post later tonight.

Hey, do you or anyone you know need some 2XL shirts and stuff? I've been hoarding my "small" stuff and would be happy to offer it up. I also have a nice 4XL+ short sleeve white dress/church shirt that's too big for me. It's a 21 inch neck)

Today we have secured a 5400 sq foot shop 3 phase sevice , empty and not a ton to put in yet. We have a place to ship to and from ( a big deal) and we can start producing for orders we had within a week , Its a brand new start , With hard work and good management we will be better than we were before. Congratulations on securing a new shop. Certainly so in your ability to remain positive and move forward when dealing with a loss of this magnitude. Hodge

How much tooling are you able to salvage? I imagine it will take a while to replace all the broaches.

That looks like a nice shop space, it would be good to think about sealing the concrete or grind and seal it so it makes it easy to clean and stay clean.
Moping a grind and seal concrete floor is easy to do and it doesn't stain which is nice.

New floor and i suppose new machines yet to come.....
