Hey P.M community! I have been tasked with shopping for a new optical comparator. I thought you guys might like to weigh in with some suggestions. Thanks much!:D:D:D

Here is the email I received:

Jay,

QA has been instructed to look for the best solution for replacing our aged 30” Optical Comparator.

The requirements are:
• New, or refurbished with manufacturer’s warranty
• Stage that will travel 20” minimum and handle 30lbs of weight
• Prefer LED lighting, but not a killer
• Basic controls w/digital output
• Programmability nice but not necessary
• 30” screen, 24” with clarity and accuracy
• 10X, 20X magnification
• $50,000.00 ball park cost
• Three different manufacturers, we will review and then ask for sales visits and quotes.

I've always loved the J&L version. Available here, remanufactured or new.

I've had 2 large ones (over 6 feet in height) and both Starrett but Starrett isn't that common in Europe now. They were both excellent but I've no idea on how good they (Starrett) are today. Both bought as new.

IMHO, J&L tops them, good company, looking to stay in the market for the long haul, new refurbs, rebuilds, and parts to support you future needs. I myself am interested in a refurbed Epic 220, smaller than your needs but impressive anyway. Best of Luck, Chris
