I seem to remember there was a device that I would describe as digital optical comparator. It was similar to those digital hand held microscopes that you see on EBAY except this one came with software that had some scale and measuring functions.
It was a low dollar thing, like a few hundred bucks.
Ring a bell with anyone?
Thanks.

The ProScope HR has some primitive metrology software available for it. However, the scopes run a few hundred dollars and the software is more.

I've got one of the scopes with a 50x lens on it -- a decent product. I'd bet that someone out there is making something with roughly the same capabilities at a lower cost. Works well enough, but not all that much to it (plastic housing, ilumination, a small imaging chip, etc.). A $200 digital camera has more to it.
