Mitutoyo Micrometer Parts/Repair

The + battery terminal prong/clip somehow snapped in one of my Mitutoyo digital mics. Not sure how, as it's not a wear item.

It was easy enough to remove it, but where do I get replacement parts?

I could make one out of 0.20mm shim stock if necessary, or just send it in. Would be nice to be able to just order the part. The install would take all of 30 seconds.

When was the last time you tried to contact them? I have had no luck earlier this year and several others have said the same thing.

I doubt that part will be available on its own, however I have found it amazing how many Mitutoyo parts are available. Go to the Mitutoyo website and search for the drawings for your model tool and get a part number for the assy you are looking for. Then try calling MSC, they can get most any Mitutoyo part and have it shipped to you. I have had great success getting parts to repair all my older Mitutoyo tools.

It's been a while since I've searched for Mitutoyo parts. Back then, Mitutoyo USA wouldn't sell direct - you had to go through the local dealer. The local dealer often didn't have the parts in stock so it was both a wait and an upcharge to get them. This whole thing is the one thing not to like about Mitutoyo -- it's a two step process to get parts and they tend to be expensive. The good news is that most of their stuff lasts for decades without need of repair.

MSC is not an option for me. Back when Dad started the business as Manhattan Supply it was a customer oriented company. The heirs think it's a financial play, buying up competitors, pumping the stock price, and playing discount casino aiming to have the "house" always win. McMaster, a better company IMO, can also get Mitutoyo parts. I suppose it says something about the US manufacturing sector that we're "served" by companies like MSC, Fastenal, Grainger, Haas as last significant US machine tool maker standing, and metals suppliers faking certs.

Could be the OP's local dealer will be better in terms of having parts in stock. Could also be he could just repair it or cannibalize an Ebay parts unit if not.

Well Pete, our perceptions are different, I dont mind using MSC while I rarely buy from them I have had an account with them since the late 1980's. I had no problem buying Mitutoyo parts from them and they were cheap. I bought a barrel and sleeve for a micrometer and the two parts were under $20. I bought several other small parts from them for indicators and most of the parts were in the $4 range.

MSC made a mistake and double ordered the micrometer parts but told me to just keep the extra parts as it was a mistake on their end. I really dont have a problem with the company.

Leigh, I tried to contact Long Island Indicator several times by email in Jan and again in March and there has been no response. Others both on the forum and by private contact have told me the same thing. I did have no problem getting in touch with them last year and had a couple of indicators repaired and bought some parts and accessories from them. But this year no luck, I went elsewhere and got the parts I wanted. See above comments.
