We are in need of an optical comparator for inspecting small turned parts.

Mitutoyo sells two models, the PH-A14 and PH3515, around $5k and 10k respectively. The latter has a bit more table travel, higher protractor resolution, and the spec sheet says it's "suitable for thread pitch measurements - free from blurred or distorted images when the workpiece is angled".

Any comments or suggestions on other machines would be appreciated.

Mitutoyo is good. I have a J&L (Jones and Lamson) TC14 which I would have given my left one for. Maybe you can find one of those for short money. The people that bought the name from Textron work up here in Vermont. They refurbish, sell and manufacture. It's a very solid machine, and I recommend it HIGHLY!
