We have 2 Zeiss CMM's with Calypso software. Recently I was watching them measure some part that are basically a rod with an ear on both sides and measuring between the ears.
I am not that familiar with the machines. So my question is if the parts are fixtured can you just tell the machine to go and start with out doing all the manual alignments they are doing on each one. They manually touch off on the part to align the part even though it is fixtured.
The only difference would be the length they can differ quite a bit.
I would think you could just press the go button like a machine tool and make it more automatic.

Thanks for any information.

You can run the program without having to manually touch the part each time. If the part is fixtured you can check the fixture once to locate it then start your DCC measurements.

For the same part just different lengths you can insert PCM (Zeiss' Higher Level Language) in your part program.
