Does anyone know the Dimension Standards for Measuring size?
Say you have a 1" flat bar 6" long with a tolerance of plus or minus .002 on the thickness. The bar measures 1" all the way across until the last 1/4". It then starts to taper off to being .997 at the very last measurable point. Is this then out of tolerance? Is there some sort of standard that you actually measure this distance from 2 "planes"?

Thanks

"Unless otherwise specified, the limits of size of an individual feature of size control the form of the feature as well as the size." MIL-STD 8 1949, (the grandfather of ASME)

Now, that being said, I am a firm believer in applying common sense, in all cases where you have all the information needed to do so.

Is this yet another theoretical question?

You ordered ±0.002" and received a bar part of which wasn't within tolerance.
What do you think?
