    Lightbulb techniques

    Just read a procedure by Mark Rand for checking squareness of optical mirrors and an autocollimator, here:
    OK, So I bought an autocollimator. Now what?

    I realized that we didn't have a sticky thread for grabbing good ideas and holding them in perpetuity, so...

    Default techniques

    Here's a method for measuring API threads. These have notorious tight pitch diameter tolerances but with care you have a very good idea of where you are.

    OK here's one way to measure external and internal Buttress threads. Makes no difference if the thread is RH or LH.
