Hello everyone,
I've been looking around here a while and can't find something definitive..

I have a 10ee, which came with a collet closer in addition to the 3 jaw. Did not come with collets, and I just recently bought some.

I slid the collet closer tube through the back of the headstock, but am not sure what is needed in order to get the collets to install correctly...when I take off the Chuck, the collet closer tube threads are about 1.5 inch recessed into the Chuck mount..

Am I missing something ?
Anyone have pics?

Thanks
Jason

Use the search function, there’s plenty of threads and pictures of what’s needed....your looking for the collet adapter.

You didn’t say what kind of collet or closer you have, do you have 5C collets and a Monarch closer?

Pictures would help to identify?

Kevin

The collet closers supplied by Monarch used a D1-3 collet nose, like this:

There was a lever operated version and a handwheel version. On those closers, the draw tube comes almost to the end of the spindle. It sounds like you have some sort of after-market closer. You probably need a Jarno to 5C sleeve. JFK Precision may be able to make one for you (link)

Kevin, Cal,
Thanks for the replies. Sorry for lack of pictures, I wasn't able to post from my phone for some reason, just snapped a few pix. Here is what i've got -- see attached.

I've also got an issue w/ the cross slide. it seems to flex when cutting moderate DOC. The cutting forces seem to tip/shake the cross feed slide.. This a common issue? Something to make it stronger?

I think Royal still sells the spindle nose piece parts for that closer, might be worth a call.

No, the cross slide should not flex. Something is not right. Find out where it is moving and have a close look. Maybe the gib is loose (for either the compound or the cross slide). Are the bed guide bearings adjusted correctly (there is an eccentric screw for each of the four bearings).
