Well, cranky at any time really. We have an old but serviceable round-dial that I dusted off and put back into production a little while ago. It was running fine and then one time I turned it off and after turning it back on it wouldn't start.
The M/G turns but the drum switch doesn't do anything. I also notice the lamp someone attached to the machine is out.
If I manually depress the F or R relay the spindle will run slowly for a moment and then pick up speed, the mounted lamp illuminates, and the machine will operate normally until I shut it off.
So, suggestions about where to start?
