hehe, probably seems a little blasphemous, but it worked well. Part of my effort to get my '42 round dial going. A VFD was installed driving a 5 hp motor mated with the 2sp back gear (The lathe was acquired with only the back gear box, cut off from the original motor). I wanted to use the machine's original controls so came up with this as way to mount a potentiometer and drive with the chain from the speed control knob. There's an adjustable brake in it (with a brass bushing) so I can create some friction so it has the right feel and doesn't move after setting. More photos on my web site.....that is also a work in progress 3D plastic parts for the 10ee - Metallum

Screw blasphemy. You use whatever tools are available to you to make it the way you want it.

I think it's a great use of 3D printing, a good design, and good execution.

nice work.
