Another Monarch Taper Attachment Clamp

Typical used Monarch owner here with a typical taper attachment clamp long lost to history.

I fabber-cobbled what is likely the ugliest TA clamp in history from the parts bin. Yes that is part of the original tool holder that came with the lathe. My end goal is to turn the TA into a tracer/follower attachment, first using a physical template, then using a servo and electronic control. Seems to me that having auxiliary control of the X axis makes it ripe for doing more than just cutting tapers.

Hmmm... that's an interesting twist to a Taper Attachment...

if I were doing an 'ELECTRONIC' pattern-following system, I'd probably use a follower-probe on the tempate, and use that to drive a servo on the crossfeed... as the crossfeed screw already controls the tool...

but there's more than one way to approach a solution. Do tell!

My thought process is that the cross feed screw is always going to have backlash unless the whole unit is replaced with a ball screw setup which would be pretty invasive and would interfere with normal manual operation as well as the aesthetics of the lathe.
