10EE Apron worm gear shaft problem

Well, this has wasted 2 hours of my life.

I cannot get the feed shaft back in the worm gear properly. See the attached pictures. The shaft is pushing the gear up so much its hitting the bearing collar, and as you can see from the open end image, the shaft wont go up high enough because of that to fit into the hole.

Yes it should. As soon as I re-read the post after I edited the pictures, I knew what the problem was. The bearing cap needs the flat on the bottom, unlike the other on on the other side of the back of the apron. I'm going to leave this post up here to show my stupidity. Frustrating day so far has left my brain at 40% power ((-:
 
On my 16 CY, there are thrust bearings on both sides of the worm gear. It looks to me like the worm, thrust bearings and shaft are not aligned.
