So I have been looking around for my first lathe to buy and have really been set on a HLV-h or a 10ee. I never thought about ACTUALLY buying one of the 2 due to weight and footprint concerns but I have come across a 30in 10ee on craigslist. I know these come up once in a blue moon and the price is right. I'd be able to "suffer" and take the extra restoration work on and deal with the difficulties moving. I was looking for a restoration project lathe that was not worn to crap in order to save some money and since I enjoy restoring.

I am not too sure what to look for on these machines as I was really focusing on a Hardinge since they are a bit smaller (half the weight). It is a 8 hour drive and would most likely have to get shipped. It only comes with a 3 jaw but like I said, the price is right. I am also curious on what one of these completely restored would go for realistically.

Here are the pics any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The price really depends on condition. I will say that it looks to have had a decent life - compound isn't whacked, indicator holder and stop rod still on there, drive looks original. You might want to get shots of the module and tube bay, make sure nothing's been screwed with too much there. I'd jump on it for 5-6K without knowing about the drive.

Thanks for the reply. I messaged the guy the second I saw the post, 8hours after it was listed, and did not get a response even though it said he read it. About 5 mins after I posted this he marked it as sold. It was only $1500 so I knew it would be impossible to go wrong but wanted some opinions on it. Unfortunately, it just slipped through my fingers. Would have made an awesome project and awesome machine.

$1500?!?!? That would have been a score!
