Monarch 13EE available.

Hope posting this is OK. Guess it wont be here for long if it isn't.

I did not even know these larger Monarch Lathes existed, I was astounded to see this. Did some research and found a few conversations here and you Monarch Lathe aficionados seem to really place a huge value on these, so....

I am posting this in hope that you more serious Monarch Lathe aficionados can have the opportunity to purchase this lathe and give it a good home.

This is not my suction. I do not have the means or facility to take on owning this lathe, I leave this to those of you who do and who have the knowledge to own, work on and operate this lathe.

Who ever buys this, if you are a member here, hopefully will keep us posted on the purchase and adventure in getting it home and getting it up and running.

Thanks, Robert

I have some Monarch literature, circa 1960 if I'm interpreting the date code right. It gives the net weight of the 1000EE with 30" capacity between centers as 10,250 pounds. The picture shown looks like it's the 30" between centers version (also offered was 54" between centers). The 13EE shown here for sale looks longer.

It's my understanding that the 1000EE followed the 13EE and is quite similar. The main, maybe only, difference was in the drive; the 13EE having a motor generator set and the 1000EE being electronic.

I’m about to pick up a 30” version next week. The listing says that is a 54” one. The tag on my 30” says that it weighs 11,500.

The weight is no big deal, I have run grinders that heavy. but it is likely too much for my trailer. I have to get off this page or will be bidding on it and no place to put it.

Looks like this seller also has a G&L grinder out in the barn.

My sense of scale might be off but the tailstock looks so light comparatively.

Is there a lot of weight in the base cabinet(s), like its a big cast tub?

No problem if you own a 15,5 forklift. :) I don't and probably should not get one.....

I was looking at the 10ee link you just posted, and don't I see a nice Cincinnati Bickford drill press in the background of one of the pics too:

Its a box column, I'd prefer a round column, but I'd really like a power fed drill press. Everything I'd like to buy is a minimum of 1500 miles away. How is that ? 1500 miles away from everything. . .:D

In searching the auction for the drill press found two large Monarchs as well:

Did anyone see the 10EE round dial in the same auction? Comes with a the Monarch collet cabinet. If anyone around the auction area wants to do some pickup and shipping let me know :).

Thanks for pointing that out!

Looks like a well equipped machine. It's a 1942 round-dial with some nice features: accumulating cross-feed dial, Trav-a-Dial and micrometer taper-attachment. Looks like it comes with a Sjogren 2J collet chuck. Add says it has a "complete collet set". Includes a nice 6" 3-jaw chuck with removable top jaws that looks like it might be set-true type (if so, the chuck alone is worth about $1000). It would have originally had a motor/generator drive. Overall condition looks good. No broken handles; but it's missing the feed/thread knob on the gearbox. Things that tend to get lost, like the tailstock dauber and the oil fill caps are all there.

Auction ends tomorrow and nobody has bid. For the low-low price of $100 this beauty could be yours!
