Hello, current very happy owner of a 1964 10EE lathe, in the future I plan on rebuilding the machine from ways up. I attended a Richard King scraping seminar recently, so I am now a scraping wizard....Just kidding, I plan on taking the class at least two more times before starting the lathe!

I know I will eventually find myself in the old need a lathe to fix a lathe predicament. I really like the series 60, specifically the 16"x30" short handle. Any tips or anything specifically to look out for? Really hoping to find a 1500 RPM tool room model, anything bigger and it will be a real tight squeeze!

Thanks,

Marco

The first thing to watch out for is the awesomeness ! :D

You want to do obvious normal machine checks/inspection.

Nice option besides taper attachment, would be lead screw reverse.

If you could lift the lid on headstock that would be great, but some sellers might not want you mess with it. The lid is heavy too, probably 100-125 lbs.

If you can run under power, shift through all the gears for spindle speeds.

Motor hp is usually 10-15hp. Might check and plan for that.

Apron feeds oil to the ways. I'd check how that is working and oil level.
