Hello all, I've been hanging out in the background for a while and finally took the plunge a bought a 41 round dial. It was rather "aged" looking but came with a fair amount of tools, a full set of 5C collets in a Monarch cabinet but no drawbar, 4 chucks (2-6" 6jaws, a 8" 3 jaw and a clapped out 4 jaw), a steady rest and a bunch of misc stuff. I cleaned it up and got it to work in my R&D shop (medical equipment manufacturer) and have found some of the warts after a month of fiddling around. All of the issues are wear related, lots of it. The carriage feed rack and pinion have lots of play, not a deal killer but annoying. Crossfeed backlash is +- 90 deg of rotation, annoying but again not the end of the world. Bed is worn and in a 12 in test bar between centers shows about .012 taper, small at the headstock larger at the tail.
I'm a rookie machinist but the only guy in the building who runs the machinery. I don't have a lot of money to throw at this old girl right now, any of you expereinced people out there have any suggestions beyond start over??
Thanks.
