Jabberwokki sent me a copy of drawings that he got with his recent lathe purchase. He too has what looks to be a mix of 1020S and 1020F drawings. They are in a notebook of sorts and are all 11x17. I would think the original drawings had to be drawn bigger than this but maybe they just weren't provided to customers any bigger than 11x17. Some of them look to be original and some look to be copies. From a quick review most of the documents seem to be the same ones that are already available for download on vintagemachinery.org but there are definitely some that are new to me that I haven't seen before. Most of what he has is for the 1020F and not the S. The textual instructions at the beginning are for a 1020F whereas the only ones I've seen floating around are for the 1020S.

Most unfortunate is that all that he has are drawings. No key sheets at all and no electrical. Hopefully later this week I will have time to take these and get them scanned.

Steve, in any case, thank you for sending them.

Thanks for the update.

I seem to recall that I have the electrical diagram for a 1020s that came from Rivett. I’ll look into it. On that same vein — what is a key sheet?

I’ll have to check. I thought my wiring diagram was a print from vintage machinery but maybe not. It wasn’t an exact match for my lathe but it sure was close enough to get the job done.

Turns out it says ‘key sheet’ in the title at the top of the page...

Posted what I thought was the wiring diagram but I took a photo of the wrong thing — it was the build schematic for the electrical area. I will go take a photo of the wiring diagram (unless I remembered wrong and don’t have one)

I finally created a table of contents of the drawings for the two documents available on VM. The first was uploaded by Keith Rucker. Link here...

The ones on the 2nd list above are marked duplicate if they're also in the first list. I may at the very least try to combine these two PDF's and put them in the proper order.

Of the documents Steve sent me, I only found two new ones that aren't in either of the above. They are...
1020F-16-1000 Main Drive Assy. 3-13-62
1020F-69-1000 Follower Rest 2 1/4" Capacity 8-29-61

I will say that the documents he sent appear to be higher quality than the ones in the documents above but I do question the value of re-scanning them. Steve has about 30 of these drawings that I could scan but they'd really only be higher quality of what's already out there (except for the two). I went by a local Office Depot today that wanted $3 per scan and 3 days to do it. At that price I almost feel like it's worth it to by an HP OfficeJet for $180 with an 11x17 scanner on it.

Here is a close up of the numbers on the electrical box schematic:

And the wiring diagram:

I’m assuming that they consider the electrical box schematic as part of the wiring diagram because I didn’t see a separate diagram for the box.

That’s all part of the electrical. And that’s definitely not a print from any of the documents on VM that I’ve seen. That’s the most legible of any I’ve seen. I spent a lot of time trying to recreate that diagram and make it legible. If you could get a good quality scan of those it would be much appreciated. I am working on creating a single document that combines scans I’m going to make of Steve’s documents as well as what is already out there on VM. Currently everything is in multiple documents, out of order, and in some cases just of very low quality.

Can you get a slightly more in focus pic of that 2nd diagram you posted? I can’t quite read the numbers.

On the electrical box/cabinet diagram, can you read the numbers in the circles for CR1, CR2, CR3, and CR4?

CR1 is 63 and 45
CR2 is 64 and 44
CR3 and 4 don’t have numbers next to them.

I’ll go get a high quality scan of these docs for everyone. I didn’t want to upload some huge file to PM. It was more for a proof of need and I think that’s been established. I’ll work on some scans.

Thanks. Would definitely appreciate that. Once I get all of this together hopefully we will have the clearest picture yet of all these drawings and diagrams.

I suspected there were no numbers on CR3 and CR4 but just haven’t been able to tell for sure. CR3 and CR4 are used for the 220 volt control motor.

Made some progress this evening. Got scans of all the documents that Steve sent. To preserve detail I scanned these as 8 bit grayscale instead of 1 bit black and white. Also scanned at 600 DPI. Difference is pretty clear...

If you don’t have anyone local that scan, send what you have to me and I’ll scan them for you and send them back.
