My EE tailstock spindle is a good rattlin'
fit in its bore. What is the accepted method of rectifying this problem? And who (pro) can do this work? The spindle is also worn undersize also, to make matters worse. Scraping in the tailstock base is not a problem, I am just interested in the spindle and bore.

I'd be tempted to bore the tailstock bore from the headstock, then chrome the spindle and center grind it to fit the new bore. If there's not a lot of eccentricity in the tailstock bore you might be able to simply lap it round again.

But then I've never taken my tailstock apart, so I could be speaking from my nether orifice.

Russ, That is kinda the procedure I was thinking would work. There is a good hard
chromer here in town and a good jig grinder.
Although it would be nice just to send the
damn thing to a guru and have it come back
perfect, you know what I mean? Cheers Daryl

My model A tailstock is likely to need the same treatment.
The ram does the shake rattle and roll when I extend it over 2.5" I have yet to measure the parts and find out where the wear really is though.
Any insight on what exactly wears out this assembly???
