Hey everyone,
I found a Monarch lathe listed locally but the gentlemen that has it doesn't know too much about it other than it works well. He said it is a "16 inch swing with a 5 foot bed." Sounds like 16 x 54 but I don't know. He has one picture of it and it's located almost 2 hours from me so I'd like to find out a little more about it before I make the drive to check it out and see it run. Let me know if you know what kind it is.

Predates a lot of the pre helical and helical head Monarchs - you can tell by the bunched shift levers

Teens or very early twenties I suppose

This would be contemporary, but focuses mostly on cone heads - thanks to Greg Menke and John Legge. In other words, a gear head version of the Model A (14 and 16") Monarch. Gear heads shown on Pdf pages 30, 35, 40 and 42 at least.

Plain spindle bearings and threaded spindle nose - top speed less than 400

Like so

One of the more KNOWN versions (a 25") worked itself old and tired roughing out "billet" crank shafts for Harry A. Miller's Indy dominating straight eight engines
