What is it and what’s it for?

I have seen in some 10EE pictures and in a few brochures and manuals on Vintage Machinery.org a rod that is stored on two hooks just below the apron, but can’t find what it is or used for. My 10EE does not have this but curiosity is killing me. Anyone have any ideas?

That is the bar to knock out your headstock center from the back end of the spindle. Very important to do that 3times a day

I guess its speaks for the kind of work I do, but I have the original one, and I don't think I have even put my hands on it , in its holder for over 10 yrs.

Me too, I seldom need to turn between centers, the rod has larger ends, so you can knock the MT center from the jarno taper sleeve, then knock the jarno sleeve out.
I just turn a center in a chuck, then have the lathe dog against a chuck jaw.
