Early and late 90s okuma horizontal mills.

Anyone run these ? I am looking into more and more jobs that would be great to have on a horizontal mill with tombstone.

I really love the older okuma lathes and I was looking into a MC 400 osp5020 or an Mx 40ha with osp7000.

Only real big minus they got is they are indexable b axis.

Both got throug coolant.

Would like to see what people who ran these older machines think if them.

The jobs require simple drilling, tapping and milling at 3 sides at 90 degrees.

I ran 2 pcs of MX40HA in the late 90's. I really liked them. Only big minus was the limited number of coordinat systems which was limited to 20. Unless you laid a lot of cash and upgraded. We did, and got 50 instead.
The B axis was not a true 4th axis, but only indexable in 1 degree increments.

Remember to remove the lifting eye when inserting full height cubes..

The guy from the danish dealer crashed our Z-axis way covers this way.

You can always save the coordinates, tool lengths, offsets, etc.. into the beginning of the program as variables.
Not sure about the older controls, but on the newer ones you can export them all into a file with like 2 clicks.
Then when you load the program you can load the data along with it.

We had 16 workpieces each with 3 sided machining, that's why we needed 48 coordinate systems. But I quit that workplace in 2001, so my memory could be faded..
