Firstly I’m clueless about robots but a keen/motivated learner

Found a local (ish) Fanuc arkmate 100 for cheap . 2500 hours on the controller clock

Can this be used/programmed reasonably easy for machine tending? Nothing big obviously.
A grid pallet of parts tending a mill or lathe.
First project would be mill tending with a small /light vacuum end on it

I can't comment specifically to that Fanuc, but I used an ABB IRB 1400 that was a welding robot and it's now tending a Haas mill. On the ABB it had some arc welding software with it which of course wasn't useful to me. This software was on top of the basic software package.

Our ABB is old (1998) and some of the programming is clumsy. For example there is no simple array programming. The newer robots seem much cleaner in this regard, but we've figured out how to make it work. In fact it's loading parts from an array on a table right now as I ready for bed.

I expect you would be just fine to go with it.
