NFPA 79 discusses cable and cord. Nobody on google seems to define the difference between cable and cord. What's the difference?BOTH are mentioned in the standard. The definitions are really vague and nearly exactly the same with the exception of "cable" also adding "...that is NOT a cord". What the heck??

Maybe this will help?

US Code Question: [NFPA 79] Cable vs Cord : electricians

cord " insulated conductors"

cable "conductors insulated from one another"

so all conductors in a cord must be individually insulated. think extension "cord", the ground wire is insulated.

and one or more conductors of a cable are non individually insulated, think of NMC, UF, the ground wire is not individually insulated.
