8" Inch Chuck On Schaublin 150
Hi everyone. My 150 came with a 6" 4 jaw concentric chuck and I would like to use a 8" 4 jaw independent that I own. Since the 8" chuck is considerably heavier, is there a risk that I might damage the lathe spindle? Can the lathe take a heavier chuck?

I had a look at the Schaublin 150 catalogue to get an idea of the chuck weights offered with the lathe when it was new. They offered a 8” independent 4 jaw chuck weighing 22lb. I own a 8” independent 4 jaw chuck but it weighs 35lbs. I’m wondering if my 35lb chuck is too heavy to use on my Schaublin 150?

The weight shouldn't be a problem.

Weight? What do you think happens when you chuck up a 6" ODx18" long chunk of steel in the lathe......
Don't think the weight is as important as impact as far as bearing life/damage....
