JHolland,

if you use the HBX proper with all the micrometers threading with the HBX is a treat.
you can turn the cros slide against a micrometer stop and control th feed dept by the top slide.
you can cut in high speed against a shoulder with only a few tenth play left.
I guess this is the mechanical optimum achieveble. the next thing is a CNC lathe.
