No, actually, to do that I loosen the retainer "plates" on either side of the compound riser block. thats the four socket head caps crews that you see just below the slot in the photo (actually to the left of the slot, the pic is sideways).
the slot has nothing to do with adjusting the compound, so what does go in there? I was thinking it’s a good spot for the DRO scale, but don’t want to block it if there is some other useful function to it. Thanks for info in advance, cheers!Last edited by cyanidekid; 01-29-2019 at 06:50 AM.

A long time ago, I'm pretty sure there was some mention of the slot on here....must have been pretty inconsequential....and never seen anything sitting in it, with the various grazianos in use or being sold over here.
I'd make sure I have a good tailstock stop, when you install the dro, if using glass scales though.

Perhaps it was intended as a coolant drain channel.

If it was just a coolant drain channel I seriously doubt it would have the dovetail. Something went in there. Sure someone knows, Cross slide stop?

Here are the change gears supplied with a Sag 14, according to the factory list of accessories:
20, 26, 29, 30, 31, 45, 47, 52, 58, 60, 64.
Not including the gears fitted to lathe: 20, 40, 80.
