Taking some time to look into ice pack thickness of the two places, it appears that a total melt down would be about 1/2 of that.

It seems like a 1 axis run-out table/gauge somehow attached to one side of a Brdigeport with a DRO for Y axis moves would serve you very well.
Actually - I guess the X axis on the readout would be...

MDI = T100

Jog up to the bar in X
Note the dro in X on the crt
Subtract the bar diameter
Enter in the X register

In Z all you doo is set the register to whatever is on the dro.
