Here's one. Ward #7 combination turret lathe. Neat lathe, but I'm not sure how you can say "works fine" when it looks like it hasn't been used in your lifetime and most certainly does not "work...

If that's the case, it makes sense as modern carriage wings are so short. However; I'm not sure it is. My Sidney will clear more than 16" to the carriage wings, and in fact I'm pretty certain the...

I'd get it, if you ever want to use the max swing of the lathe. Chuck jaws are hanging pretty far out gripping at 16" piece with a 14". I'd feel much more comfortable with a 16" for very big work....

Why not just replace it with a right angle cup? My friend Kyle Herald most likely has some, he's got a good collection.

    I'd step up to 5.

Has anyone priced a new gear via Boston Gear or something? Probably not cheap, but that looks like a pretty nice lathe.

Two types of clipper. Stuff with a metal bar welded to each link, and ones held together by paper or cardboard. The latter obviously has the advantage of having no bar, but also can be a lot more...

I don't feel the need to have mine tensioned, at least with clipper. When it gets a bit loose, I cut one of the laces off as short as possible and put another on. With a time-intensive skive or hand...

Rather than fool with finding hard-to-find top jaws, wouldn't it have been easier to buy a brand new or lightly used plain-back 3 jaw (might as well get a set-tru while you're at it) and just machine...

    Big Bore Heavy 10?

I saw this SB heavy 10 listed, but the seller quotes it as having a 1 3/4" spindle bore. Photo looks like it too. I had never seen one of these before. Were they common? Extremely rare? Special...

I think someone said it earlier, but having the right size lacing makes a lot of difference. I have Clipper #2 which is rated for up to 3/16" on a 3/16" belt. With it squished tight, the clipper...

Yessir. I want more too. I found these cheap on FB marketplace and bought them right away. I didn't know they were a thing before that.

Great job mag pie! My gears are reasonably noisy in backgear as well. Just the nature of the beast.

Well, the one I have won't work either. It's for 2 TPI leadscrew. It's also been busted and re-brazed, and is locked up.

Most likely. Brass fingers. And a near 100% chance of being the wrong base. I'll post a listing in the for sale section here sometime. There's a chance that the owners of the machines are on here....

It may be too big. We have a bunch of steady rests in matching paint we also need to find owners for, and most are for larger swing machines than the Sidney. It's probably for a 4 tpi leadscrew...
