    Thanks, I'm thinking the self centering style would be best for me.

    Looks like the Starrett 579 has both plungers spring loaded so it's "self centering" but the Mitutoyo only has one?

    Need one to cover a gap between my pin gauges and bore gauge but never used one, I see there's two types:

    I use 5C collets 90% of the time, started with just a draw bar and recently found a Royal collet closer.

    Very, very handy for work 1" and smaller.

    Just ignore the "noise", you'll get some...

    I messed with this a fair bit and found that...

    I messed with this a fair bit and found that running the reamer in the lathe backwards and stoning the cutting edge works.

    Do a little at a time and test.

    I just can't wrap my head around how a hole could shrink after heat treat, I only see it growing. That is if the material grows overall. If it shrinks overall I could see how a hole would close up...
