Being a measly 65 years old, I know a LOT of people my age with serious amounts of tats, piercings, and even a couple with scarification.
The biggest growing sector of the population getting tattoos these days is women over 50.
I know quite a few heavily tattooed women well over 50. Most are completely normal, grandmothers, executives, retirees.

Me, I have a couple of unseen tats from the 70s, and 3 holes in my left ear, but where I live, I dont stick out at all.

Over the years I have hired people with visible tattoos, even one guy with facial tats. Lots and lots of piercing, including a guy who worked for me for five years with both nipples pierced with 3/4" diameter rings. Also, queers, butch lesbians (one of best technical welders I have ever seen) femme lesbians, native americans, asians, and blacks, Vets, ex-cons, retirees, evangelical christians, atheists, anarchists, libertarians, nerds, flaming weirdos, and perfectly normal people.

Never been an issue what somebody looks like.

The guy who came to the interview with a pierced tongue and purple hair- he turned out to be a pretty conservative redneck from upriver, where the tarheels all live.
But out here on the West Coast, the loggers all started having long hair and smoking pot in the early 70s.
Tats and piercings are not a sign of anything except personal preference.

Oh- and while I am not a fan of the music of Post Malone, I am a big fan of his taste in suits- he has custom made western style suits made for him that are truly amazing- sort of modern day Nudies Rodeo Tailors, if you know what I mean. I own a Nudies suit myself, old and tattered these days, but I still haul it out once in while. Wish I could afford one of the Union Western suits- they are far more "art" in my book than any tattoo.

Free life observations worth about what you've paid for them (remember your internet bills!)

    1. Weight loss - I now believe it depends on patterns of exercise and eating and life in general that are very specific to each person. Expect to have to search to find the right pattern for you, and then find it's hard to maintain over time. But also remember that incremental improvements help.

    2. There's a not much-discussed in the mainstream observation that doing vigourous exercise, eating reasonably, and so on, will improve your health - whether you lose any weight or not.

    3. A shaved head means no muss getting in and out of racecar helmets, or bicycle helmets. And you never have to go to the frilling barber ever again. Electric razor provides full head grooming. And nobody knows how much hair fell out.... Do take care to not sunburn your head...

As for looks and judgement - Sometimes truth and doom show up in cargo pants and a pollo shirt, and there's no magic spell that says they won't spoil your day because they aren't wearing a tie.

And in the loud and vigourous 1990s in the tech industry, if somebody like me whispers to you at the office, you are about to be fired. Happily I didn't whisper very often.

Did you purposely write that in the manner of Baz Luhrman's classic Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)?

Baz Luhrmann - Everybody's Free To Wear Sunscreen - YouTube

I had to go listen to it after reading that.

My neighbour at the last shop for the last 2 months of every year installed tall christmas trees adorned with baubles lights etc. These were installed at casinos, large shopping malls etc.

I commented that it must be exciting installing the trees for Christmas. He said, "no I'm Jewish doesn't do anything for me"

One time I was in the shop and my wife came by in a hurry white as a sheet. I looked outside and my (jewish) neighbour was talking to a very large guy covered in neo-nazi tattoos, up his neck, down his arms, on his calves etc. My wife is German so that freaks her out bigtime.

After he left I asked what he was doing talking to a neo-nazi. He said that had been a phase he'd gone thru, left it all behind him, and was a really nice guy. He was also one of his most reliable installers as he couldn't get a job anywhere else. Employers would take one look at him and it's obvious he's never getting hired.

he said the best part was when customers were slow to pay, he'd send the ex neo-nazi around to remind them to pay. He only ever had to make one visit.

I'll pretty much talk to anyone, but I didn't go near that guy.

    .
+1. Not having to drive, park, wait, pay for a hair cut almost makes up for not have much anymore. Almost

Sure, but there is a world difference between "should you be concerned about what other people look like", and (what I've talked about) "should you be concerned about how you look to others".

Yes. And the inverse is, what you see in the appearence of others tells you a lot, but some of what it tells you is wrong....

And I've often wondered about the clues, probably subtle and very dependent on context, that let us almost always judge the working person just off shift in rough clothes, from the outright bum in similar clothes. Probably more about behavoir than the clothing...

@Teachmeplease - never heard of Luhrman before. But better than average advice on most things....

Way back in the early 80's I worked for this manufacturing Pharmaceutical company here in phx. The bar we normally went to after works was closed for remodeling or some crap like that, so we hit up this hick bar call Grand central station. huge place one of the biggest in arizona.
there was like 10 of us bullshitting at the bar and our black friends who acted like he was white was hitting on this chick, they came to the bar and started conversation. our black friend was pretty handsy with this chick and she was all over him as well. we all had a pretty good buzz just kinda ignoring them. The chick walked off to another table of her friends and Our black friend said he was going to get layed tonight and he didnt need a ride home , she would take him. he went off to take a piss and we started staggering out the door. were out in the parking lot getting in our cars and he comes out running yelling and screaming Wait Mf'ers paints are all wet still not even buttoned. so we get out of the car thinking some hicks were giving him crap. he starts explaining he was in the bathroom and some dude got in the very next urinal and said so were going to your place now?. he looked over and about shit himself. it was the "Chick" and "she" followed him out to the parking lot calling him all kinds of names.

come to find out that hick bar had a chicks with dicks night every wednesday or thursday and we had no clue about it. Poor guy never lived that down.

That is a weird one, I did not think rednecks took too kindly to gay dudes.

OK, so let me see if I git the moral of the story here:

Blackie thinks he's whitey, but in the end he decides that maybe he's just not THAT white, and can't go through with it?
But a real honkey would have rolled with the changes?

Holy shit... this thread is a rollercoaster ride. It's been a busy week and I figured I'd come back to another page or two, but 34?!?

Sooo... it turns out AS9001 is a liar and a scammer? I am surprised... but maybe shouldn't have been. I bought a new lathe this year and he said he wanted to get one too - I sent him my price sheet and he told me he decided not to buy because he was buying three and they refused to match the price they offered me for a parts catcher even though I just bought one and he got three.

I just don't get the point of engaging in all that storytelling and bullshitting... to what end? Just to feel like an important person amongst strangers you're never met? I asked him about how he picked up job shop work once and he touted the value of ISO/AS... turns out that was BS too. There must be some seriously bizarre psychological stuff going on there to spend SOOO much time keeping up a front. Who has that kinda time?

Well, good detective work guys. As for the person who asked about some video of my project.... it's not done yet but even if it were, I wouldn't be able to post. It's all military parts and this customer is super strict about any recording devices in the shop. Maybe I can get some pics at some point.

I don't see how a dude could be fooled by a drag queen and that is what they called them in the 80's. Even if they were in the last stage of a sex change, while the operations and hormone therapy have advanced anyone think Caitlynn Jenner wasn't born a dude? Now they do facial reconstruction they didn't do back in the day and you can still tell. I would think any picture of an ex-dude that could pass for a woman these days had the hell photo shopped out of it.
