Hi All, I'm looking for information about the Sebastian gap bed lathe that fallowed me home instead of being dumped off at the scrap metal dealers pile. I've included a web link to pictures that I have taken of it. It is a line shaft machine 4 speed on the cone and a back gear, just about 16" swing, 22" at the gap, with a 8 foot total bed length. It even came with a truck load of tooling. If anyone has a manual, catalog, ad, etc., that shows this lathe, please let me know. I would like to get a photo copy of it, or even purchase the original.

Thanks,

--Greg

Hi Greg,

My neighbor has, in his collection, a catalog of Sebastian Gold Seal Lathes that might help you. The catalog doesn't list a lathe with 16" swing however. I'd photocopy it for you if you wanted.

Good luck in your search.

Steve

Greg,

I enjoyed the images, that looks like a nice machine old and still very useful. I took the liberty to dump your front view to a file and reformated and made a printout for my files. I appreciate your taking the time to share the picures. Perhaps, I can help you out.

I have a 16 page Sebastian catalog, undated, from around 1900+ that shows a gap bed lathe in size 15" with 22" over the gap. Looks like what you have. They only list a 6 foot bed. They show some interesting accessories: turret, taper, threading dial, milling attachment. Well, this is intersting, they use a gear driven shaft for threading, but a flat belt drive for normal feed, but the interesting thing, is they offer an accessory quick change retrofit that bolts on the side of the lathe. I guess this catalog is more like early teens, but the old model is still in production.

If you care to email me, I can provide you with a photocopy of the catalog.

(email address removed at poster's request)

I am curious, YAHOO is a free service and yet they provide photo storage? What are the limitations and terms(ie costs)?

Hi Greg:
My name is Joe Carroll, I'm from the Atlantic City NJ area. Have you made any progress in finding info on your sebastian? I'm in the same situation, I'd like to restore a later model but, finding it hard to get info. If I do find a source for info or parts I'll let you know. Joe
