Hardinge cutting tools

I noticed in a Hardinge booklet on carbide cutting tools that they show much more rake and different angles than I can find on stock carbide tools. Are the different grinds that much better on a small turret lathe? I can't find cutting tools on their web site. Are they still available. Should I grind stock tools to their angles?

This is one lonely place, ain't it JM ? I noticed a "vintage Hardinge" site I had in my files is kaput recently. Curious the lack of interest in discussing these machines. I suppose part of it, is that unlike Monarch and the European mills, Hardinge lathe parts and support are readily available, so there just don't tend to be as many questions or problems. Most questions and problems seem to concern the Hardinge mill, for which support and parts are scarce indeed.

I don't have an answer for your rake question btw. Maybe ask it in "general" and someone that doesn't check on this desolate place will see it and answer.

I think your right that more rake would be needed on the smaller machines
