W/S was known for the high caliber of its field service force. Almost all of these men came out of the Regular Apprentice program. Here in New England when I arrived was Charlie Davis, later transferred to Chicago, where he retired. One of his hobbies, by the way, was building small steam engines, one of which was in a large model locomotive, that could pull you around his back yard, and at least one was in a small tug boat. We had John Perkon, later transferred out, Bob Grill, whose Dad was once in the shop at W/S, and Roger Huszar, who stayed until the end, whose Dad had also been in the shop at W/S, and Larry Cooper, hired in the field and lost during a cutback. All of these guys had the full respect of our customers, who often said our great service was one justification for paying the (almost always) higher price for W/S turning machines!
