Aligning dice saw arbor

I have 3 machines that are suppose to have the arbor flange aligned to 0.0001". To measure this I have to jump from one side of the flange to the other. Is it even possible for the indicator to maintain this accuracy from one surface to another? I will post a photo so you can attempt to figure out what I am talking about.

Indicate across a parallel rather than the lip. Be sure the parallel is flat and parallel, the longer the better.

Thanks for the response. I've been thinking about making a ground flat disc that I can bolt onto the arbor. It would at least give me a continuous surface and keep my hands free.
