I would like to make a mandrel for trueing/facing AR-15 upper receivers (where the barrel extension mates with the upper receiver).

Questions:
1. Has anyone made one of these?
2. What diameter did you turn it to?
3. Did you taper it at all?
4. How did you keep the receiver from spinning or moving laterally? (if not tapered)

Also- how much material do you take off when doing this procedure? Did you turn between centers?

Thanks,
Gavin

I made one but have never used it yet, I got the dimensions from one a friend bought. I used 1.25'' cold rolled. It is designed to be used with a hand drill. I would imagine the blocks that mount in a vise to install the barrel would work to hold the upper from spinning.
