Can someone give me some pointers on a Mitutoyo 162-102 bench micrometer? This is the large mic with a sliding head stock and an integral 0.0001" indicator.

It is not very repeatable. I can set zero it with Jo blocks close to the size that we are measuring but when the part is checked at a known size it is reading about .001" low and the pointer only returns to within 0.0003 during successive measurements.

I am thinking it might be the anvil pressure but I can't figure out how to change it.

What is the small dial in front that is graduated .5 to 3?

There seems to be a lock at the upper left on the rear side but it doesn't seem to lock anything.

Thanks in advance.

G-Auto,

The .5 to 3 dial is the anvil pressure in pounds.

I'm unable to find an instruction manual for this instrument.

Gordon,

That link is a dead-end. It's just a question from somebody looking for the manual.

You may want to try: Machinist's Tool Repair. He repairs and calibrates all that stuff for some big companies. Ask for Mike (the owner) 330/483/3202

Thank guys. Adjusting the pressure with the dial helped. I think its working well now. At least it returns to within .0001 now.
