Hey guys,

I have a model 60. 16x126. A few years ago, I got some info from Monarch based on the serial number. One of the features of the lathe is that is has rapid traverse. I don't see anything that acts as a rapid traverse other than setting the feed rate on high and turning up the rpms. Could my lathe just be missing these componants to make rapid?

thanks,
Mark

The rapid traverse if it is still functioning is driven by a fourth rod through the carriage that will turn all the time when the main motor is running. That shaft is driven by a chain in a tough to access area under the headstock and if it is not turning the apron and slideway oiling which is driven by that shaft is not functioning either.

To actuate the rapid the levers for the cross or longitudinal feed are moved to the left or right in their T shaped slots and make sure you have your knuckles clear of the handles because away she goes right, left, in and out at the touch of a lever.

Its a cool feature and will be good to have on a long bed machine.
