Tupe 38 Arisaka

Just got asked how to remove the rear sight base, from a Jap type 38 Arisaka??
Not having any experience with one, I thought I'd ask :scratchchin:

Anyone???

My bud picked one up for $50!! and it had already been sporter-ized to a certain extent.. he wants to remove the base as it had already been
drilled and tapped for a scope base..

Remove the two screws in the top of the band and then drive the band forward off the barrel.

if it's been sportered and that base is still there maybe its a case of more work than its worth to remove

the rear sight base was knocked off! just took a lil effort and some imagination to get-r done.
( kind of a last minute thrown together "Hey Shaper, help me get this sight base off!"

as far as the sporterizing goes?? a few years back, Marlow was 'gifted' a custom left handed stock blank for an Arisaka!
all he needed was a gun :willy_nilly:

and some time to do the inletting and finishing. The type 38 fell into his lap last fall.
since he was going to all the trouble of restocking it.. he wanted to get the sight base removed..so that's the story??
