I acquired this dividing head at an auction for not very much money. I had no idea the maker until someone on PM pointed me to a cut from Catalog No 19, circa 1917. It seems to operate just fine. And besides a couple missing oil plugs, it seems fine. And it’s over 100 years old!

To be honest, I don’t know if I’m going to keep it or unload or scrap it. It’s probably worth more at scrap prices than I paid for it. Or at least close. And there Doesn’t seem to be a lot of information out there in it, so I doubt the machine this was paired to is in use today. Are there any others out there? I couldn’t find even pictures outside of an illustration from the catalog.

If someone out there has an interest in it, I’d be happy to work something out. I hate the idea of scraping it, but it’s taking up space and my shop is very small.

Similar era and design features but not the Universal head as shown in the image.
The one I have swings 6 & 5/8" and weighs in at a trim 28 pounds.

I need to get a scale and try and get a weight. It's got to be at least 80-100 pounds.

If your Spiral Universal head swings 10" it will have the #10 B&S taper in the spindle bore and weigh 155 pounds.
If the swing is 12" the head will have the #11 B&S taper in the bore and weigh 240 pounds.
I wonder if that weight is with or without a K&T supplied chuck?
Thanks to John Oder & Greg Menke for the link and hosting.

Here is a tailstock that swings 10" and is similar to the K&T in the image.

It does have a 10" swing, and according to my bathroom scale (don't tell my wife :)) it's 113 pounds with the chuck. Maybe the 155 pound specification includes the tail stock? Or my scale has been lying to me all these years!
