Re-felting my 10K

I’m on the verge of ordering the felt kit for my 10K.
I’m hesitant to pull the spindle on what is obviously a very low-hour machine.

I see what seems to be two weep holes above the Gits oil ports on the headstock. Should excess oil come from those?

Basically how can I tell if the spindle is getting sufficient lubrication?

I believe that those holes are for holding down the spindle wicks during assembly. The Brooks book on the complete overhaul will tell you for sure.

If the spindle isn't getting enough oil, you will soon know it. Just keep topping off the volume in the spindle GITS and you should be fine. With use, a small amount of oil will come out around the nose of the spindle.

Might be worthwhile to to replace the oil in the reservoirs even if leaving the wicks/spindle in place.

My rebuilds involved full teardowns and flushing clean, but I suspect it wouldn't be a good idea to put any sort of solvent in with the wicks in place.
