I picked up 2 H10's back about a month ago. After looking for almost a year I was finally able to snag one. It's a 1942 Toolroom with a 3' bed. When I got home and unloaded that one another popped up on Craigslist so I grabbed that one the next day. That's a 1949 with a 4' bed. I was so happy. The '42 was in decent shape with the usual bed wear. The '49 has less bed wear but more idiot marks.
My plan is to use this for my own gunsmithing since I rebarrel my long range rifle about once a year. I am going to initially work on restoring the '49 and see how it goes. Here is where I am so far:
When purchased (I know the chuck is in the headstock...bad mojo. I misplaced it twice so I stuck it there until I had time to clean my garage)
It had oil in the cups which was a good sign. Don't know what kind of oil. It had a thick covering of oil, dirt, grime, and shavings all over it as well. I was able to run it prior to purchasing and it sounded great. The spindle runout was less than .001 so that was good sign. It was missing the left side gear cover. The lever to engage the gear box was not assembled so it hadn't been used for threading in over 15 years. Numerous bolts missing, compound was locked up, etc. Definitely in need of some care.
