Usually that means hardened bed. But, it might also mean camlock or taper nose spindle.

Thanks Allan for the quick reply!!!! Well it's not the camloc for sure so as far as the hard bed no tag on it saying so,as far as the taper nose spindle not sure what that is being New to lathes/machining in general just starting my learning curve.how would you check to see if the bed was hard or not? Thanks again.

Hit it with a hammer? 
hard beds don't always have a tag, but they never have frosting marks on the ways. Taper spindle nose looks like a cone instead of threads.

My Heavy 10 also has the "X" Special Spindle. Doesn't appear to be anything special about it.
When I bought the serial number card for it, it say it has a hardened bed. So that may be it.
