Wow! Much improved. I am not much of a video person so I can't relate the incredible improvement but I was beating my lathe up with that old back gear assy. Now I am running quiet and I have new spindle speeds at my disposal! Teds part was different in a few ways from mine which leads me to believe the shaft on mine was also bespoke. There was no chamfer on the hole at each end and mine was not stamped "Grease". The tolerance between the two shaft gears is much tighter too so that I had to position the new assy between the spindle gear shoulders with about .02 to spare! Worst part is that the old grease-port plug doesn't fit in the new one so I'll have to make something there!

Having a functional lathe sure is useful for part clean up!

I like seeing the spokes in there!

Once again it is proven that with an old South Bend Lathe there is no problem that cannot be solved with some ingenuity and/or an open wallet!

Even though it is marked "GREASE", I would still put in "OIL" (Type C), because the "GREASE" is no longer available and there are NO KNOWN SUBSTITUTES.

I made a cap/plug today. If I had a smaller set of stamps I could stamp "OIL" on this!

Thanks! I was feeling good about that last one. It helped a bunch to be able to use the new back gears to make it! 80 RPM felt right for the 3/4 diameter material.
