I have a south bend 8" jr. lathe and I want to get a 4 jaw chuck for it.

can anyone tell me what size i need for this lathe? what is a mid range price? What brand/brands?

How do they attach to the head stock?

thanks, Mike

Hi Mike do you have the small book by South Bend "HOW TO RUN A LATHE" lots of information there, it can be found on the net or a hard copy at eBay reprint or original. Lots of options for chucks and prices. You will need a threaded chuck to fit your spindle nose..

I know it's been awhile, but just ran across this post. I have a SBL 8"jr. The nose is a 1 3/8" x 10 thread. good luck finding anything. you'll most likely have to buy a chuck and adapter then cut your own threads \.
good luck
