If that was for a South Bend lathe, then it doesn't fit your machine. Neither the 10L, 13", 14½" nor 16" has a MT5 spindle taper. These machines have a "proprietary" taper that is simply a "large" MT3 taper. A MT3 taper is 0.603" per foot, while a MT5 taper is 0.632" per foot. It may APPEAR to fit nicely, but if you were to measure the TIR, you would see it varied each time you inserted your collet closer.
To Chuck - If you want help from the community, you have to give us the information that we would need to help you. Namely, what lathe model you have. All the above models were available with D1-4 cam locks and not all had the 0.603" taper.
