Does anybody know how to figure year model date by serial #? I can't seem to get hold of Rose at partsworks. #11975NAR8

I guess I'm sorta part of the short bus racing crew. I went to the URL under your name and I found the Yahoo group but could not find the serial number table/decoding referenced.
Am I really that slo or am I missing something?

Check out the Yahoo southbendlathe group. In the Files section you'll find a link for downloading an Excel file ("South Bend chronology.xls") for determining an approximate mfg date from the serial number. It uses an algorithm based on the serial numbers of lathes with known mfg dates.
I'm pretty sure you need to join the group before you can access the Files section, but it's a simple process and well worth it. Hope this helps.

Hey i rode the short bus too. Someday i want to buy one and put a sticker on the rear bumper that says, 30 years ago i rode the short bus now i drive one. Pretty cool huh. No problem...Bob
