Faceplate

I figured I would run this by the forum before re-purposing this piece.
I have a lathe faceplate which is approximately 15 3/16" in diameter and 2 3/8" thick with 2 3/8-6 threads.
I was under the impression that it would fit a South Bend 16 or 16-24. This has been thrown into doubt by a forum member who believes it will not clear the feet on the headstock casting (thanks for the heads-up Tom).
Thing is, the large faceplate SB offered for the 16-24 is 22 3/4" dia., so why doesn't it rub?
Does anyone have a 16-24 with the large faceplate, who can offer some insight?
Does anyone know of another lathe which has a 2 3/8-6 spindle which this would fit?
I'm just trying to figure out what I have, and if anyone can use it, before I turn it into a base for a grinder pedestal.

Hi JA, don't have a good answer for your question but it seems like the plate would make a better drill press table than grinder base... Jim

Here are some pics illustrating the limitation on my 16" machine. The faceplate shown is 13-1/4" in diameter, but because it sits so tight to the headstock, there's room for only maybe another 1/4" max radius/1/2" diameter to miss the Sphinx feet.

Hope this helps. Feel free to cross-post the photos over on the For Sale page for your buyers.

Who knows if it would fit, but the 1910 16" Lodge & Shipley was 2 3/8-6 with a rather long 2 7/16 pilot bore behind
